How To Prepare The Perfect Tigers
These are a million times better than what you get from a jar!
Like so many super successful carp anglers, Adam Penning describes tiger nuts as “one of the greatest carp baits of all time”, but as with so many things in life, not everything is created equal, and that’s so true for tigers. Here Adam reveals how he prepares his to utter perfection. Please note: ratios are not exact and they don’t need to be precisely measured.
WHAT YOU NEED:
→ Good quality tiger nuts (CC Moore comes highly recommended)
→ Soft brown sugar
→ Betalin or Mainline’s Intense
→ A bucket
→ Lake or rain water or mineral water

HOW TO DO IT:
1. To prepare half a bucket of perfect tigers, fill a third with raw tigers.
2. Cover in either lake water or mineral water, ensuring you have 2-3” of spare water on top.
3. Stir in a kilo of soft, rich, brown sugar (‘fine grain’, the type sold for baking).
4. Stir in three capfuls of intense sweetener. I use Hinders Betalin, but Mainline’s Intense is also good.
5. Leave for 24hrs, preferably in a warm place.
6. Transport the tigers and liquid to the hob and bring to boil. Simmer for 10 minutes.
7. Put the whole lot back into a bucket with the liquids and seal. NOTE: If there isn’t enough liquid to give two inches of minimum coverage, then boil the kettle with mineral water and add and stir in.
8. After half a day or overnight, check the tigers still have liquid covering them. As they swell they will absorb the liquid and you mustn’t let them get dry.
9. After 48hrs in a warm spot, you will have the PERFECT tiger that is a million times better than what you get from a jar and is certainly one of the greatest carp baits of all time.
